The Analysis of Inspection Supervision and Control In The Area of Environmental Criminal Law Protection In The Republic of Serbia provides a comprehensive overview of the key role that inspection bodies play as the first mechanism for detecting and documenting violations of regulations related to the protection of nature and human health. Through a detailed examination of the legal framework, institutional capacities, available equipment, cross-border cooperation, and existing practices, the analysis identifies the main challenges faced by inspection authorities, including the lack of trained staff, inadequate protective and mobile equipment, limited training, and weaker coordination with other institutions such as prosecutors’ offices and courts.

The findings indicate that, despite the legislative potential for effective criminal-law protection, the practical implementation of inspection oversight remains insufficient, directly affecting the quality of investigations and the successful prosecution of polluters. The analysis provides concrete recommendations for strengthening capacities, improving inter-institutional coordination, and enhancing cross-border cooperation—particularly important in light of new European directives and the growing number of environmental incidents with regional consequences.

This document serves as a foundation for further reform efforts and for improving the environmental protection system in Serbia.
