The civil society organizations Belgrade Centre for Human Rights, CRTA, Civic Initiatives, A 11 – Initiative for Economic and Social Rights, Lawyers’ Committee for Human Rights YUCOM, and FemPlatz will hold a press conference on Wednesday, 9 April, to address the incident of 15 March that disrupted a peaceful protest in Belgrade during the 15 minutes of silence held in memory of those who lost their lives in the collapse of the awning at the Novi Sad Railway Station.
The press conference will take place on Wednesday, 9 April, at 12:00 PM in the large conference hall of the Media Center (Terazije 3, 1st floor). Civil society organizations have received over 4,000 testimonies from citizens of Serbia regarding the events of March 15, 2025, which took place in central Belgrade – spanning the area from Slavija Square to Terazije and the surrounding streets – during the fifteen minutes of silence that began at 7:00 PM. The press conference will present the actions undertaken by civil society organizations before domestic and international institutions, aimed at protecting the human rights of persons affected by and reporting on these incidents. In addition, an analysis of the collected testimonies will be presented, detailing what several thousand individuals heard, felt, and experienced from the moment the gathering was interrupted, as well as the health issues and consequences they have subsequently endured.
Speakers at the conference will include:
- Katarina Golubović, Lawyers’ Committee for Human Rights YUCOM
- Đorđe Krivokapić, SHARE Foundation
- Vladica Ilić, Belgrade Centre for Human Rights
The working language of the press conference is Serbian. Simultaneous interpretation into English will be provided. If you are unable to attend the event in person, we can arrange online access to the conference with interpretation via a Zoom link.
Our organizations remain committed to supporting the citizens of Serbia in establishing the truth about the events of 15 March, and in protecting their rights and interests before both international and domestic bodies.
