YUCOM’ conference: Freedom of Assembly in Serbia: Opportunities, Challenges, and the Role of Key Institutions

At the conference, the following speakers will address the participants:
- Katarina Golubović, president of the Lawyers’ Committee for Human Rights (YUCOM)
- H.E. Jan Bondy, Ambassador of the Czech Republic to the Republic of Serbia
Keynote Speaker: Ms. Gina Romero, UN Special Rapporteur on the Rights to Freedom of Peaceful Assembly and Association (online)
The conference will feature the presentation of the Analysis of Institutional Practices regarding Freedom of Assembly and Expression (2019–2024), with a special focus on key challenges in the implementation of the legal framework. A dedicated segment will highlight the free legal aid provided by YUCOM to citizens over the past year, including representation in criminal and misdemeanor proceedings, ensuring effective protection of their rights and freedoms. In addition, the results of the project Legal Support against Misuses of the Right to Protest will be presented, and participants will have the opportunity to learn about the Practical toolkit for law enforcement officials to promote and protect human rights in the context of peaceful protests, prepared by the UN Special Rapporteur on the Rights to Freedom of Peaceful Assembly and of Association.
