Milan Filipović, Director of Research at YUCOM, participated in a thought-provoking panel discussion at the Belgrade Security Conference organized by our colleagues from the Belgrade Centre for Security Policy (BCSP). This year’s theme: “Reconstruction of Global (Dis)Order” couldn’t be more relevant.
The panel Milan was a part of was all about “Silencing Dissent: The Struggle for Human Rights in Central and Eastern Europe and the Western Balkans.” Joining hands with esteemed speakers – Roberta Taveri from ARTICLE 19 Europe, Áron Demeter from Amnesty International (Hungary), and Mark B. Taylor from the Docket initiative foundation – we dove deep into the challenges faced by human rights defenders, civil society organizations, and institutions safeguarding fundamental rights.
One pressing issue that we discussed was the alarming increase in Strategic Lawsuits Against Public Participation, commonly known as SLAPPs.
